Grace from God

Our next program, Grace from God, begins on April 3rd, 2024, gathering each Wednesday evening at 6:45 with the program beginning at 7pm.

The word 'Grace' occurs between 130-170 times in the Bible, depending on the version you use. Defining the word depends very much on context. In these studies, we will look at different aspects of God's grace using a variety of Bible verses from both the Old and New Testament.

A Guiding Light

We begin our next 4 week program on Wednesday, April 11th.

If you have ever been on a package holiday, then chances are that you have been met by a representative employed by the tour company to be your guide though your stay. Someone who knows the town you are in, where the essential services and best value restaurants might be found. If you book a tour, they will introduce you to the surrounding countryside and any secret places that might hide from the casual (and guide-free) visitor. They will also (hopefully) ensure that you find your way safely from one destination to another and not lose any of the group!

Christians tend to think of guidance in terms of questions such as “What should I be doing with my life!”, “Am I in the right job?”, “Am I in the right relationship?”, “Which Church should I go to?” and no doubt many more!

This study examines the theme of guidance, looking at Scripture, and using examples of famous guides from history to inform our discussion.

We continue to gather on Zoom. If you would like to join us, please contact stspoffice@gmail.com. Let us know if you would like to join in person as we are more than happy to gather at the church along with our friends on Zoom.

A Search for Peace

Our Lenten study is A Search for Peace and will begin on January 11 on Zoom.

If asked, most people would say that they would like a bit of peace in their lives. So, what does the Bible tell us? Peace is a word that seems easy to define on the surface, then expands as we explore it in different contexts. Dictionaries use such definitions as:
-
Freedom from war and violence
-
Freedom from oppressive thoughts or anxiety
-
Harmony within personal relationships, at home or work
-
A state of tranquillity or quiet
The term has its origins in the Latin ‘pax,’ meaning peace, compact, agreement, tranquillity, an absence of hostility, and harmony. There is an ancient connection in English as a greeting with the Hebrew word ‘shalom’ which extends its definition to ‘being complete, or whole, with a wish for good health, well-being and prosperity.' We also use it as a farewell, particularly at a funeral service, with the phrase ‘rest in peace’.

Please join us any Wednesday as this Advent study looks at the story through the eyes of Matthew with familiar themes and a glimpse into the life of Joseph. We'd love to see you there!

Understanding Jesus | Joe Amaral

Join us on Zoom for our current session, Understanding Jesus.

By understanding the time and place in which Jesus was born, the background from which He drew his illustrations, and the audience He spoke to, we find details in the scriptures that we might normally miss.

Each week will include a short video followed by small group discussion. We'd love to see you there!
